Carlile Patchen & Murphy LLP partners with CBRE to sell downtown office building as part of long-term growth plan

Carlile Patchen & Murphy LLP announced today that it has hired international commercial real estate company, CBRE Group, Inc. (NYSE: CBRE) to broker the sale of the firm’s Downtown Columbus office building, located at 366 East Broad Street, as part of the firm’s long-term growth strategy.
“As our business continues to thrive and develop, we want an office environment that supports a more collaborative approach to client engagement and one that maximizes internal staff effectiveness and productivity,” said Co-Managing Partner, Carol A. Sheehan. The Central Ohio law firm also plans to utilize CBRE’s services to research new office space in the Columbus area that aligns with CPM’s expansion and regional requirements.
Carlile Patchen & Murphy purchased the 29,672-square-foot building on the corner of Broad St. and Grant Ave. in 1986 when the law firm moved from their previous offices located at 100 East Broad. The historic three-story structure, built in 1926, was designed by the prominent architectural firm of the period, Richards, McCarty and Bulford. The neo-classic style building was originally owned by the Ohio State Life Insurance Company and then was sold to a local leasing company who rented the space to several tenants over a two-decade period. When CPM took possession in 1986, the building underwent a major structural renovation to accommodate the firm’s growing staff and clientele. Although much of the internal framework was redesigned, several of the original architectural features have been carefully preserved, including the ornate carved plaster ceiling in the main lobby, the original marble flooring in the first level and the decorative brass stair rail connecting all four levels of the building.
David Hartsook, first vice president, CBRE, will be managing the sale of the 366 East Broad Street property. William Whipple, senior vice president, CBRE, and Terry Matthews, senior vice president, CBRE, will assist Carlile Patchen & Murphy in finding a new space to lease.
