CBRE announced today that Waste Management has signed a long-term lease to relocate its corporate headquarters to Skanska’s Capitol Tower development in downtown Houston at 800 Capitol Street. Waste Management is the leading provider of comprehensive waste management services in North America.

“We are excited to move our corporate headquarters to Capitol Tower,” said Jim Fish, President and Chief Executive Officer of Waste Management. “This new work space is one of the many ways we are focused on investing in our people. Additionally, the building will be one of the most sustainable office buildings in Texas and supports our company commitments to conserving natural resources.”

CBRE’s Rich Pancioli, Jon Lee and Lisa Konieczka represented Waste Management in the transaction.

Executives considered multiple factors in their decision including the recruitment and retention of top talent from across the nation. CBRE Research has found technology and workplace efficiencies have reduced the amount of space required to conduct business, so companies are looking to put that capital towards newly developed amenity-rich buildings to attract the best and brightest talent.

“Working with CBRE we evaluated many great options and feel confident Capitol Tower will provide a unique and collaborative platform for our new corporate headquarters space. Capitol Tower offers us high-end desirable amenities, along with a great location within the Houston CBD to support us in continuing to move our business forward for many years to come,” said Jim Wilson, Senior Director of Real Estate for Waste Management.

The 35-story Class-A office development is on track to open in mid-2019 and has trendsetting elements, including a 10,000-square-foot private event and meeting space and a 24,000 square-foot roof top terrace and green roof that will sit on top of Capitol Tower's attached 12-story parking garage. The building is the first office development in Texas to achieve LEEDv4 Platinum pre-certification.

CBRE’s Kristen Rabel and Warren Savery, represented Skanska, the developer and owner of the project, as exclusive leasing agent for Capitol Tower.
