500 W 2nd - LEED Certification

CBRE announces that its 21,000-square-foot office in Austin has been awarded the LEED for Commercial Interiors Rating System (LEED CI) by the U.S. Green Building Council.

The LEED CI Certification is awarded to spaces that are working to minimize environmental impact and maximize occupant comfort and performance of tenant spaces.

CBRE occupies the seventeenth floor of 500 W. 2nd in Austin, housing more than 100 employees.

CBRE has occupied this space since August of 2017. It is a part of CBRE’s global Workplace360 initiative, the company’s leading-edge approach to workplace strategy designed to promote flexibility, mobility and productivity through technology-enabled, 100 percent-free address and paperless office.

“CBRE is a company that is prioritizing environmental sustainability,” says Brooke Brindle, Senior Project Manager at CBRE in Austin. “In achieving the LEED CI Certification for our Austin office, we underscore our commitment to driving sustainable real estate practices and programs that are reducing our overall environmental impact.”

The sustainable design and building strategies used in the new office include:

  • ENERGY USAGE: 44.17 percent reduction in lighting power using lighting controls and occupancy sensors covering 85 percent of the space.
  • RECYCLED CONTENT: Specified new materials contain recycled content.
  • ENERGY MEASUREMENT: All Workplace360 offices install submeters to track lighting and plug load. Results are aggregated at a national level to ensure optimal levels of efficiency.
  • CONSTRUCTION WASTE: A minimum 78 percent of waste created throughout demolition and construction were diverted from landfills.
